Dry Needling is a Western-style acupuncture technique that involves inserting needles specifically at painful points to release tight muscles, particularly known as Trigger Points. These are areas where blood circulation is restricted, leading to the accumulation of waste products released from contracted muscles. This results in continuous pain and the spreading of discomfort to other muscle areas, such as pain at the neck radiating to the head and shoulders or pain around the shoulder radiating down the arm. This is a primary cause of Office Syndrome (Myofascial Pain Syndrome).
Dry Needling, administered by a rehabilitation doctor, differs from traditional Chinese acupuncture. Each needle insertion helps relieve muscle tension by more than 80% immediately, promoting the realignment of muscles, reducing pain, and improving blood circulation and waste elimination. The needle’s size is very small, comparable to the size of a hair, with varying lengths depending on different site and muscle thickness, requiring the expertise of the treating physician.
Dry Needling suit for Myofascial Pain Syndrome (MPS), Chronic muscle pain, Posture malalignment resulting from imbalance muscle usage, and Office syndrome.
Dry Needling Procedure
- The physician inserts needles into Trigger Points.
- Patients may feel muscle twitching and relaxation, with the possibility of slight needle movement until the muscle stops twitching.
- The needles remain in place for 1-5 minutes per location.
- After needle removal, patients may feel soreness at the insertion site, which can be alleviated with cold compresses or stretching exercises.
